Taming Anxiety and Regaining Calm
Fear of spiders is extremely common, and when it starts to control everyday life, it can feel overwhelming. With understanding, support, and the right tools, anxiety can be managed, and calm and confidence can be restored.
This six-session integrative programme offers a supportive space for individuals who experience fear of spiders (arachnophobia).
The fear is the result of an overactive threat response in the body: the nervous system perceives danger even when the situation is safe.
This programme helps you understand your fear, retrain your body’s response, and build confidence and emotional resilience.
Blending counselling, coaching, somatic techniques, and hypnotherapy, this course provides practical strategies to manage anxiety, gradually reduce fear responses, and feel more in control.
It helps clients understand how their nervous system reacts — whether through freeze, flight, fight, or fawn responses — and teaches techniques to regulate these responses, retrain the body’s alarm system, and respond with calm and confidence.
Each session is tailored to meet you where you are, supporting you at a pace that feels safe, compassionate, and empowering.
What Can Cause a Fear of Spiders?
The fear of spiders, known as arachnophobia, can develop for a variety of reasons, often rooted in early experiences or learned behaviours.
For some, a traumatic encounter with a spider during childhood can leave a lasting impression, while others may adopt this fear by observing anxious reactions from family or peers.
Evolutionary perspectives suggest that an innate fear of potentially harmful creatures like spiders may have helped our ancestors survive, creating a deep-seated response that persists even in safe environments.
Additionally, stress and anxiety in daily life can amplify sensitivity to perceived threats, contributing to the intensity of this fear.
Understanding these underlying causes is a crucial step towards breaking free from the grip of arachnophobia, leading to a more empowered and confident way of interacting with the world around us.
