About Vaginismsus

“Healing begins with safety. When the body feels safe, it can begin to soften, trust, and open again.”

Vaginismus is a deeply personal and often misunderstood condition. It is not a failure, a flaw, or “all in your head.” It is the body’s protective response to perceived threat, fear, pain, or past experiences — and it can be gently unlearned in the right environment.

This six-session integrative programme offers a confidential, compassionate space for women experiencing vaginismus, painful penetration, sexual anxiety, or fear around intimacy to reconnect with their bodies in a safe and respectful way.

Whether your experience is linked to past trauma, medical procedures, relationship difficulties, anxiety, religious or cultural conditioning, or unexplained pain, this programme supports you in developing comfort, confidence, and trust in your body at your own pace.

Using a blended approach of counselling, coaching, somatic awareness, and hypnotherapy, we work together to:

  • reduce fear and anticipatory anxiety,
  • calm the nervous system,
  • release unconscious muscular guarding,
  • rebuild body confidence, and
  • support positive, pleasurable connection with your body.

All sessions are guided by consent, choice, and emotional safety. Nothing is ever rushed, forced, or expected.

Your comfort and autonomy are always the priority.

What Can Cause Vaginismus?

Vaginismus is a complex condition characterised by involuntary muscle contractions that can make penetration painful or impossible, often stemming from a combination of emotional, psychological, and physical factors.

These factors may include past traumatic experiences, anxiety related to intimacy, cultural or religious beliefs about sex, or medical issues such as pelvic pain or past procedures.

This response is the body’s way of protecting itself from perceived threats, highlighting the deep connection between our emotional state and physical sensations.

Understanding these underlying causes is essential in addressing vaginismus compassionately, allowing individuals to reclaim their sense of safety and intimacy in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Vaginismus support session

Programme Outline

Six sessions designed to help gentle reconnection, including:

Session 1 – Creating Safety & Understanding Your Body’s Response

This opening session focuses on building trust, understanding, and emotional safety.

We explore your personal experience of vaginismus, any medical history, emotional influences, beliefs about intimacy, and current challenges.

You will learn how the nervous system, stress response, and subconscious mind influence pelvic floor tension and pain, providing valuable insight into your body’s protective responses.

The aim is to normalise your experience and create a strong foundation of safety and understanding.

Session 2 – Hypnotherapy for Relaxation & Pelvic Floor Release

This session introduces hypnotherapy focused on deep physical and emotional relaxation.

Working at a subconscious level, we support:

  • nervous system calming,
  • muscle softening,
  • reduced fear responses, and
  • improved body awareness.

Gentle imagery and relaxation techniques help the body learn that it is safe to let go.

Session 3 – Hypnotherapy for Confidence, Trust & Sensory Comfort

Building on relaxation work, this session focuses on strengthening trust in your body and reducing anticipatory anxiety.

Hypnotherapy is used to reinforce positive body sensations, comfort, and confidence.

You may also learn self-hypnosis or anchoring techniques to use independently.

The aim is to support gradual, pressure-free reconnection with physical intimacy.

Session 4 – Personalised Integration & Emotional Support

This session is guided by your individual needs.

It may include further hypnotherapy, counselling, coaching, or somatic work.

Common focus areas include:

  • fear of pain,
  • relationship communication,
  • body image,
  • past experiences,
  • self-esteem,
  • boundary setting,
  • emotional safety.

This session helps integrate emotional and physical progress in a meaningful way.

Sessions 5 & 6 – Flexible Support & Ongoing Confidence Building

The final two sessions offer continued, flexible support as you apply what you have learned.

They may be used for:

  • reinforcing relaxation techniques,
  • addressing setbacks,
  • strengthening confidence,
  • preparing for intimacy,
  • supporting relationship communication,
  • maintaining progress.

These sessions recognise that healing is not linear and that confidence develops over time.
